Mountain Biking

Brechfa Forest provides mountain bike trails for all standards. The green graded Derwen Trail is great for families and novices as the generally smooth surfaces and sweeping curves make it perfect for the beginner. However, there’s also enough to amuse the more experienced rider with the optional blue extension.

Designed by Rowan Sorrell, The red graded Gorlech Trail consists of three big climbs and descents stretching over its 19km route. There are lots of jumps, sculptured berms, huge switchbacks and an exhilarating final descent.

The black graded Raven Trail, designed by Rowen Sorrell and Brian Rumble, will test both nerves and skill and is only suitable for proficient riders. With a mixture of hard climbs, table tops, rock gardens, natural singletrack, berms and log rides the Raven offers something for everyone. It has easier options for the first timer and sections to test even the most experienced of riders time and time again.

The Raven is a real tester of your very best riding skills I’m sure you’ll find yourself wanting to session the Jump park or Qualifier. The start of the trails at Byrgwm and Abergorlech are both within a mile of The Barn. Further information and maps of the trails available from Mountain Biking Wales

Well worth a visit is the Drop Off Cafe at Byrgwm. Open at the weekends during the summer season, the Double Decker Diner offers a range of home cooked food, cakes and refreshments and provides bike spares and repairs. It is recommended whether you are a mountain biker, walker or just hungry!

If you are still looking for more, then there are a further 14 bike trails in the Brecon Beacons National Park including the infamous Gap route and the Black Mountains’ killer black route.
